Frequently asked questions
Whole-food spirulina is the entire spirulina algae, usually dried and powdered, with minimal processing. A natural, nutrient-dense superfood to support general health and well-being with the full spectrum of nutrients that occur naturally in the algae. Extracted spirulina is the concentrated form where specific compounds (like phycocyanin) are extracted from spirulina for targeted support when you want a more concentrated dose of a specific nutrient focused on antioxidant support, immune modulation or inflammation support.
A natural antioxidant produced deep inside the spirulina cell structure. It’s a pigment-based protein that works like a solar panel for this extraordinary alga, giving spirulina its naturally vibrant blue-green color. When extracted, phycocyanin is nearly 7,000 times more potent than spirulina itself, offering anti-inflammatory, protective properties that help support and heal your body at a cellular level. Phycocyanin is spirulina’s most bioactive compound responsible for many of the effects attributed to spirulina. It’s anti-inflammatory and helps protect your cells from damage while supporting your body’s natural healing processes.
Spirulina maxima is one of the two main species of spirulina used in supplements for its rich nutrient content — the other being Spirulina platensis. Both are blue-green micro-algae and are nearly identical in nutritional profile; rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids, but the Spirulina maxima strain is known for its superior bioavailability, protein (70%), iron concentration, and antioxidant (phycocyanin) content.
Only advanced patented photobioreactor cultivation methods will ensure the highest quality Spirulina without wasting the earth’s resources. This closed system allows for precise control of light, nutrients, pH, and temperature, resulting in an eco-friendly, nutrient-rich product. This method eliminates contamination risks and preserves the full nutritional profile of Spirulina through a gentle drying process.
What is the recommended dosage of PhycoSci and SpiruMax, and can you take both supplements together?
Both supplements work great together to optimize the benefits of spirulina. Adults are recommended to take 4 tablets SpiruMax per day with a glass of water, preferably in the morning, and 8 ml of PhycoSci poured into a glass of water. SpiruMax is also best taken in the morning or before physical activity for enhanced recovery.
Allergies are possible to almost any food, especially to dairy products, eggs, peanuts, fish, soy, apples, celery and many more. Spirulina itself is not classified as one of the 14 mandatory allergens under EU regulation. The absence of these common allergens (like gluten, peanuts, or dairy) allows us to confidently state that our spirulina product is free from the listed allergens.
Spirulina contains a small amount of omega-3 (ALA), but the amount is very low. For optimal omega-3 intake, BalanceOil, which provides EPA and DHA, remains the more effective source. Spirulina can complement BalanceOil for its other nutritional benefits but does not provide significant omega-3 levels. However, spirulina does contain a small amount of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a beneficial omega-6 fatty acid known for its anti-inflammatory properties. GLA is not commonly found in many foods, and spirulina is one of the few natural sources.
